Potential customers and clients are online and will comment regardless of what your business does or does NOT do!

But, luckily creating and managing an online business reputation is easier than many believe. By being proactive and taking specific steps, you can successfully manage your business image online. In the process, you can develop a steady business brand and reputation that crosses over both offline and online arenas.

Creating your company’s message and taking it to the world on the internet is just a very valuable and effective marketing tool in your overall business “marketing toolkit”. In this day and age, many believe this is one of the top strategies you can implement for your business.

Check out this 5 step game plan to start increasing your online reputation:

Game Plan Element #1: Determine Your Current reputation status

Begin with a totally honest evaluation of your current online image and reputation. Do Google searches (and other search engines, like Yahoo, etc) for your full name, company name, brand and/or other key phrases. You’ll need to look at the first couple pages of results on Google and other search engines. Use a excel spreadsheet or Google doc to record your findings – list the urls, position on the page and the comments you find on each of the web pages. You can also use a tool of ours to help collect information from some of the traditional review sites.

Game Plan Element #2: ID Changes That Are Needed

Review each result on your findings spreadsheet, then determine the comments [...]

Reputation Matters: Is Your Online Reputation Costing You Business? (Part 2)

In Part 1 of Reputation Matters, we discussed how more and more consumers are checking and counting on online comments and reviews of local businesses before deciding who to use. It’s a growing trend. It’s also a huge reason why companies need to be pro-active in monitoring, managing and marketing their reputation.

To understand the perspective of their potential customers, a Kansas business owner needs only to ask him or herself, “Would you buy products or services from a company with bad reviews and ratings?”

Of course, he or she would be hesitant!

What types of reputations are there and what impact does it have on a business?

Well, reputation can be broken down to “bad”, “good” or “none” at all. Obviously, we know that is a negative thing to have a bad reputation and something needs to be done about that fast. But “no reputation” is just about the same as having a bad reputation, because it doesn’t get the phone ringing. If a business had hundreds or even thousands of customers last year, yet only a few, if any, wrote a review, you might wonder why the lack of feedback. In addition, a company would NOT stand out, or even look credible.

Then there’s a “good” reputation, which simply means some good reviews and maybe some not so good reviews, but it’s more good than bad. If a business had multiple good reviews but had one bad, especially if it’s recent, versus another company, with all 5 star feedback, which would you choose? Having a good review is not enough if a business wants to get the phone ringing.

The goal of any Wichita business should be to create a 5 Star reputation, positioning itself as a leader [...]

Reputation Matters: Is Your Online Reputation Costing You Business? (Part 1)

Reputation Matters: Is Your Online Reputation Costing You Business? (Part 1)

How does a consumer decide which business they will use? Well, people have always, and will continue to, buy goods and services from companies they trust and believe will do a great job for them… makes sense, right?

The big shift now is HOW THEY ARE FINDING those local businesses in Wichita and throughout Kansas.

They’re looking for the most reputable company, and more and more, they’re doing research online to determine it.  According to recent studies by Nielsen and Bright Local, more than 72% of consumers state positive customer reviews make them trust a business more and 65% say they are MORE LIKELY to use a business with positive reviews.

Due to that rising trust of online reviews and using them to form opinions (positive & negative) about a local business, Bright Local states that small businesses “can’t afford to let their online reputation lie idle or unmanaged as a negative reputation will directly impact customer acquisition and ultimately revenue.”  And, positive reviews have a “real, actual impact on purchasing decisions.”

A business’s reputation is more public and more accessible than ever. Consumers are able determine much from the experiences of others and can judge a business before ever setting foot in the door or picking up the phone to call.

Even if a Kansas business owner has hundreds, or even thousands, of happy customers, unless they “voice” their positive experiences online through feedback and reviews, the “silence” could be costing the business big time.  Potential clients and customers will migrate to a competitor, who has more social proof about their goods and services.

Whether it’s a Wichita business, or elsewhere in Kansas, or even throughout the USA, how a company responds to public complaints and praise is immensely importance. Businesses [...]
